In 2011 Dorothy decided to try “plein air” painting; painting in the open air. It opened a door to new possibilities and she enthusiastically promotes plein air’s ability to increase artists’ skills, knowledge, and abilities. In addition to her plein air work she continues her studio work and enjoys teaching, exhibiting in galleries, and participating in plein air shows. Member, Oil Painters of America and the Pastel Society of New Jersey.

Barbara Morcerf

I spent several years of my early adulthood in Rome, Italy and now live in northeastern Pennsylvania. My first exposure to oil painting was at the age of 12 and I never lost my fascination with art and oil painting in particular. Through the years, I attended classes at the Art Students’ League in New York and various workshops in between family and work obligations. I was finally able to devote myself full time to my art in recent years. I am a representational artist whose favorite medium is oil, although I like to do small studies in gouache. I paint ‘en plein air’ when I get the chance; winters are usually spent in the studio further developing plein air studies and creating still life and figurative paintings. I love to experiment with the effect colors have on one another: still life paintings provide possibilities to experiment with shapes and composition.
